The Spring Push, our grassroots membership call to action in late March and April, was a great success. We had one hundred sixty members meet with eighty different Congressional offices during our push. Thus far we have added nine additional cosponsors in the House bringing total support for the “Access to Genetic Counselor Services Act” to forty-nine Representatives. Out of the eighty offices we met with, thirty were Senate offices and we expect additional support to come in from that chamber as a result of our meetings.
As the Congressional healthcare agenda is still in flux, we will be making another big push in June to meet with members of the House and Senate committees that have jurisdiction over these bills. If your Representative or Senator sits on one of these committees of jurisdiction (see below), please make the effort to sign-up. We’ll schedule the meetings and make it easy for you. The meetings themselves take about fifteen to thirty minutes and we really need you, as a constituent, to explain the importance of improving access to and reimbursement for genetic counselors.
You can find the members of the House and Senate committees of jurisdiction by clicking on the following links:
The NSGC Advocacy Coordinating Committee will also be recruiting our members from key districts represented by members of the committees of jurisdiction, so please answer their call to action if they contact you.
