As individuals and organizations increasingly leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities, it is more important than ever to have clear guidance around their use. As such, the Perspectives Editorial Team has established the following guidelines around AI usage:
- Perspectives requires the disclosure in the article text of any use of AI within article development and generation. This does not include using AI to check grammar or spelling, but does include outlining and idea generation as well as any use of AI in the writing process.
- All articles that utilize AI must include a human review to verify facts and do a thorough review. Factual information generated by AI tools cannot be taken at face value; the tools generate their answers by predicting what word would come next based on the text they have been trained on, not through verified research.
- If you cite sources in your article, we expect that you will have read those sources and connected them to the points you are making. AI-generated citations to nonexistent sources are an increasing problem in scientific literature (Naddaf & Quill, 2026). Do not write your article and then ask an AI tool to provide sources. This is against academic best practice and can generate fake sources
